Afghanistan announce Asia Cup squad; Shenwari returns

This year’s Asia Cup of T20 format is going to start in the United Arab Emirates from the 27th of this month. Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced the squad for this tournament. Muhammad Nabi will lead the team. Leg-spinning all-rounder Samiullah Shenwari returned to the Afghan team after almost two months.

 

Afghanistan will enter the field in the opening match of the tournament.

In that match, the opponent of them is Sri Lanka, the host country of this year’s event. Meanwhile, the Afghans have formed a very strong team with a mixture of youth and experience. 17-year-old leg-spinner Noor Ahmed is a surprise in this team. There is another leggy Kais Ahmed as standby.

 

Afghanistan Cricket Board chief selector Noor Malikzai said about the Asia Cup team, “Shenwari is in great form even though he has not played international cricket for a long time. He has also performed exceptionally well in the recent T20 league. His presence will add extra dimension to our batting line-up.”

Mohammad Nabi (captain ), Najibullah Zadran ( vice-captain), Afsar Zazai, Azmatullah Omarzai, Farid Ahmad Malik, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Hazratullah Zazai, Ibrahim Zadran, Karim Janat, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Najibullah Zadran, Naveen ul Haq, Noor Ahmad, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Rashid Khan, Samiullah Shinwari.

 

On standby: Nijat Masood, Qais Ahmed, Sharafuddin Ashraf.
