The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group G included the No. 1 rated team in the world, Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, and Cameroon.

Brazil, led by Neymar, will be heavily favoured to advance to the knockout stages, but they will face intense competition from the two European teams that qualified for the finals automatically by finishing ahead of so-called superior teams in Portugal and Italy.

Cameroon will provide experience and vigour after qualifying for the with a playoff win against Algeria.

Brazil is expected to win the group, with the other three squads vying for the second qualifying spot and a place in the knockout stages.

In the Round of 16, the two clubs from Group G would face a team from Group H.

Each of the four teams in the group will play the other three nations in a round-robin basis. The points from those three group-stage games are used to determine the group rankings – three points for a victory, one point for a tie, and none for a defeat.

The single-game knockouts are held for the top two clubs in each group based on total points. If two clubs are tied on points, the first tiebreaker is goal differential, followed by goals scored. A different set of tiebreakers is used if teams are tied in those areas.

Brazil played an important role in the World Cup, and the Selecao will look to end Europe’s domination on the grandest stage for the first time since their fifth victory in 2002.

Although Argentina defeated their old rivals in the Copa America final last year, many observers believe Brazil is the side most likely to reclaim control of the World Cup for South America.

Angel Di Maria’s lone effort at the Maracana in July was Brazil’s only loss in 2021, and one of only five goals they conceded. Their chances will be determined by how well their attacking forces work together, with Neymar under pressure to finally win a World Cup worthy of his ability with Real Madrid wonder Vinicius Jr.

Serbia did not qualify for Euro 2020, but it did earn a spot in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar by finishing first and unbeaten in a difficult qualifying group that included Portugal. In fact, the Balkan nation was automatically entered into the draw after a late win over Cristiano Ronaldo and his team in November.

Dusan Tadic’s creativity and skill will undoubtedly cause difficulties for their group opponents, while Aleksandar Mitrovic and Luka Jovic provide other attacking alternatives. They could surprise a lot of people if they play with cohesiveness.

Dragan Stojkovic, a former Red Star Belgrade player, has only lost two games since assuming control of Serbia in March of last year, making his side a challenge to defend against.

Switzerland ended World Cup qualification with a bang, defeating Bulgaria 4-0 at home in November to cement their position atop Group C and secure an automatic entry in Qatar.

Murat Yakin’s team was undefeated in qualification, conceding only two goals, and will be one to monitor when the competition proper begins, with a defence that is powerful from the back but also skilled in unlocking the opposition.

Xerdan Shaqiri, now with the Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer, is the star, and the 30-year-old will be expected to guide the squad and give a creative spark.

With a stunning aggregate winner-take-all victory against Algeria in late March, World Cup veterans Cameroon secured a comeback to the finals for the first time since 2014.

The Unstoppable Lions will be making their eighth World Cup outing and can count on a number of experienced players who might be major contributors in Qatar. Vincent Aboubakar and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting are both seasoned international talents who will be held to high expectations.

Cameroon’s best finish in the competition was a quarterfinal appearance in Italy in 1990, and charismatic coach Rigobert Song — a former Liverpool player who made four World Cup appearances — will assume his side has a chance to achieve the knockout stage again after finishing third at the Africa Cup of Nations.

December 5 & 6, the first- and second-place finishers in Group G will proceed to the Round of 16, where they will meet the two teams who advanced from Group F.
