Qatar World Cup will be the best World Cup: FIFA President
There has been no less criticism since Qatar hosted the World Cup. The country has also been accused of hosting the deaths of migrant workers through bribery. Although later proved innocent, they eventually organized the World Cup known as ‘The Greatest Show on Earth’. FIFA President Gianni Infantino spoke to the media before the start of the World Cup. And he asked for forgiveness from the Europeans who were hypocritical about Qatar.
The FIFA president spoke about the past history of Europeans and suggested to focus on the World Cup, “Europe and the Western world have a lot to learn now. They should apologize for the next 3,000 years before teaching people about what the Europeans have done to the world in the last 3,000 years.”
Homosexual relationships and consumption of alcohol in public places are not allowed in Qatar. There was no less criticism about it before the start of the World Cup. The FIFA president also highlighted this issue and said, “Today I consider myself a Qatari. I consider myself an Arab, I consider myself an African, I consider myself gay, I consider myself disabled, I consider myself a migrant worker. But I amn’t actually Qatari, Arab, African, gay or disabled. Why do I still think so?”
Citing the reason, he said, “I know what it’s like to be discriminated against, how it feels to be bullied, what it’s like to be a foreigner in another country. I was bullied as a child because of my red hair and scars. I was also an Italian (in Switzerland). Look, what would you do then? In these cases, you need to mix with people. Not to complain, attack or insult.”
Criticizing business groups in Europe and the Western world, Infantino said, “European and Western companies earn millions, billions of dollars from Qatar, how many of them have spoken to the authorities about the rights of migrant workers? No one has said. Because if the law is changed, their income will decrease. But we did that. FIFA earns less than these companies operating in Qatar. Qatar World Cup will be the best World Cup ever.”
However, referring to these statements as his own, Infantino said, “I don’t have to stand up for Qatar, Qatar will speak for itself. I’m speaking for football. Qatar has improved. “
Asking everyone to enjoy the World Cup, he said, “If you have to criticize somebody, do it. Don’t put pressure on coaches, players. If you want to criticize, criticize me. I’m here. Don’t criticize others. Don’t criticize Qatar. Let people to enjoy the World Cup.”
