Yuzvendra Chahal leads IPL 2022 Purple Cap ranking

Yuzvendra Chahal, the Royals’ leg-spinner, is the leading wicket-taker this season with 19 wickets in ten games.

The Punjab Kings (PBKS) put an end to the Gujarat Titans’ winning streak in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL). Kagiso Rabada got four wickets to limit GT to 143/8, which was followed by Shikhar Dhawan’s half-century. They chased down the mark in just 16 overs thanks to Liam Livingstone’s ferocious 30 from just 10 balls. While GT was prevented from taking a four-point lead at the top of the table, it was a significant net run rate improvement for PBKS.

With 16 points from eight games, the Titans are still on top of the table. However, their net run rate of 0.158 is significantly lower than that of the teams in second, third, and fourth place. This implies that if the issue remains the same, any of these squads might overtake GT if they catch up to their point total.

PBKS, on the other hand, still has a long way to go to secure a playoff position, despite the significant win. They moved up to the fifth position, passing Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB) . They are level with RCB and Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH) on 10 points. Although their net run rate of -0.229 is higher than RCB’s, it is significantly lower than SRH’s.

Kagiso Rabada of PBKS bowled brilliantly against GT, taking 4/33 to go into third place. He has finally made it to the Purple Cap table’s top ranks. The PBKS pacer had had an unusually slow start to the season, but he has been steadily improving in recent matches. Rabada has 17 wickets in nine games, the same as Kuldeep Yadav of the Delhi Capitals (DC). Yadav has a slightly higher average (15.82) than Rabada (16.05).

Yuzvendra Chahal lead the most wickets wins the Purple Cap.

Yuzvendra Chahal has got the world watching him right now. He leads the Purple Cap Race with 24 wickets in 13 matches this IPL. The 31-year-old right-hander is followed by Wanindu Hasaranga (23) in the second position. Kagiso Rabada (22) is third in the standings.

Yuzvendra Chahal has been in outstanding form for Sanju Samson and his team since being purchased by Rajasthan Royals at the IPL 2022 mega auction. So far in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, he has 24 wickets in 13 matches. The 31-year-old batter, who spent eight years with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), was purchased by Rajasthan for Rs 6.50 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Spinners like RCB’s Wanindu Hasaranga (23) and Delhi Capitals’ Kuldeep Yadav(18) have done well in the 15th edition. These two spinners are among the IPL 2022 bowlers who have taken the most wickets.

Chahal expressed his delight at seeing Hasaranga and Yadav capture wickets in the competition. He told the media that he is always satisfied when he contributes to the team. Every team member is playing well; it’s not as if only two people are. Every game has two or three match-winners. Chahal added that he is glad for Hasaranga in anything he does since he’s like a brother to him. He will be thrilled if he and Yadav both take wickets.

In the 2008 season, Sohail Tanvir became the first bowler to win the Purple Cap after taking 22 wickets in 11 matches. In the event, the Pakistan left-arm seamer took 22 wickets at an incredible average of 12.09.

RP Singh, a former left-arm fast bowler, was the first Indian cricketer to get the Purple Cap honour. Singh won the award for taking 23 wickets with a strike rate of 15.50 in the 2009 IPL season.

Last year, Harshal Patel won the 2021 IPL after taking a record-equaling 32 wickets, the most ever in a single tournament. After the season ended with CSK defeating KKR by 27 runs in the final, Patel was awarded the Purple Cap for IPL 2021.

Patel is currently ranked 17th in the Purple Cap IPL 2022.

Despite the fact that numerous people have won the Purple Cap, only Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Dwayne Bravo have won it twice. In fact, Bhuvneshwar is the only player to win the Purple Cap twice in a row, with 23 and 27 wickets in 2016 and 2017, respectively. On the other hand, Dwayne Bravo holds the record for most wickets in a single edition (32 wickets in the 2015 season).

Pragyan Ojha, Lasith Malinga, Morne Morkel, Mohit Sharma, Andrew Tye, Imran Tahir, and Kagiso Rabada are the other players to have received the Purple Cap award in IPL history.

Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals(RR) beat Lucknow Super Giants(LSG) by 24 runs to move to second spot in the points table. Trent Boult’s quick strikes with the new ball hurt Lucknow early before Krunal Pandya and Deepak Hooda threatened with their solid half-century stand. The latter did score his fourth fifty in IPL 2022 today, but his efforts weren’t enough as LSG were restricted to 154/8 in 20 overs.

Kagiso Rabada, on the other hand, has surpassed former great Dale Steyn as South Africa’s top wicket-taker this IPL. On Monday, Rabada took the only wicket for the Punjab Kings(PBKS) in their 17-run loss to the Delhi Capitals(DC).  Dale Steyn, a former South African fast bowler, played 95 matches in the IPL and took 97 wickets at an average of 25.9. Rabada grabbed one for 24 in three overs, including the wicket of Mitchell Marsh of Australia, who top-scored with 63 off 48 balls.

In his 62nd IPL game, the South African raised his tally of IPL wickets to 98, making him the country’s most wicket-taker in the lucrative T20 event. Rabada has represented the DC in every IPL event since making his debut in 2017. This year, the PBKS purchased him.

The PBKS have one more IPL game left and are in seventh place with 12 points. Rabada only needs a double in Sunday’s encounter against the Sunrisers Hyderabad to become the competition’s fastest bowler.

Furthermore, Umran Malik claims to have picked up his fist-pumping celebration after observing his mentor and bowling coach Dale Steyn do it in the Sunrisers Hyderabad nets everytime the young tearaway scores a wicket. With 3 for 23 from three overs at Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday night, Malik was instrumental in Sunrisers’ tight triumph over Mumbai Indians.

Malik’s 21 wickets in his first full IPL season rank fourth overall and second among fast bowlers this year, narrowly behind Rabada’s 22.

Meanwhile, as the competition nears its conclusion, the battle for the playoffs has heated up. While the Gujarat Titans have officially clinched a top-two finish, RR and LSG are all but done with 16 points and a good net run rate. However, both sides can be eliminated mathematically. As a result, it will be intriguing to watch how the final four will turn out.

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Prediction: Group Stage & Knockout

There is a possibility to forecast which teams will go through the tournament to the final since the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 groups have been drawn.

After winning in Russia four years ago, France will travel to Qatar this November as defending champions, and Didier Deschamps’ team is likely to be among the frontrunners again in 2022.

According to FIFA rankings, Brazil is the No.1 ranked team in the world, and they are aiming to win the World Cup for the 6th time in their history from the first since 2002.

Every time the FIFA World Cup is full of surprises, a ‘dark horse’ will emerge, such as Croatia’s unexpected run to the final in 2018.

Play in Qatar won’t start for a few months, and a lot can happen in that time, but here’s a sneak peek at how the 2022 World Cup might play out:

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Prediction of Group Stage

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Prediction Group A

  • Group A1 – Netherlands
  • Group A2 – Senegal

Qatar is the Group A Pot 1 team, but it couldn’t have had a tougher draw. The return of Virgil van Dijk, who missed Euro 2021 due to injury, will help the Netherlands. Still, Senegal established its quality by winning the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year. While the Netherlands and Senegal are the favourites to advance, don’t overlook Ecuador, who might be a force to be reckoned with.

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Prediction Group B

  • Group B1 – England
  • Group B2 – USA

After reaching the 2018 World Cup semifinals and the final of Euro 2021 last summer, England has started preparing for the 2022 World Cup. Meanwhile, the United States has the most talented team. Gregg Berhalter and his young team may lack tournament experience, but they should be able to advance to the Round of 16 despite Iran posing a far more difficult battle than many expect.

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Prediction Group C

  • Group C1 – Argentina
  • Group C2 – Poland

Argentina has the longest unbeaten streak in international football (31 games) and has finally provided Messi with the kind of support he lacked at previous World Cups. Mexico will be aiming for the last 16 (and beyond — the ‘Quinto Partido’ curse still exists), but Poland’s firepower, led by Robert Lewandowski, the best goalscorer in the game, should be enough to see them through.

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Prediction Group D

  • Group D1 – Denmark
  • Group D2 – France

Denmark advanced to the semifinals at Euro 2021, and Kasper Hjulmand’s side followed that up with an outstanding World Cup qualification campaign. In Qatar, France will have to deal with the curse of the defending champions (no team has repeated as World Cup champions since Brazil in 1958 and 1962). Didier Deschamps’ team has been weak since their victory in Russia in 2018, but this group might still be one of the most unbalanced.

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Prediction Group E

  • Group E1 – Spain
  • Group E2 – Germany

Luis Enrique has revitalised a Spain team in desperate need of new ideas following a poor showing at the 2018 World Cup. With players like Pedri and Gavi, Spain is one of the most exciting and youthful teams in the world, and they should not be overlooked as potential champions. Germany is likewise going through a generational transformation, but it is still a threat in its midst. Despite the possibility that Japan, Costa Rica, or New Zealand could play spoiler, the two heavyweights are expected to advance.

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Prediction Group F

  • Group F1 – Belgium
  • Group F2 – Canada

The 2022 World Cup will be a make-or-break tournament for Belgium, as they face the potential of a golden generation passing them by without ever winning a major title. Some may see Croatia as the favourite to win Group F, including Belgium, but Zlatko Dalic’s team is old. Meanwhile, having won the North American qualification tournament, Canada is a young, talented, and difficult opponent (CONCACAF). Canada hasn’t qualified for the World Cup since 1986, but this isn’t a team that will go quietly into the night.

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Prediction Group G

  • Group G1 – Brazil
  • Group G2 – Serbia

As the world’s top-ranked team, Brazil has earned top billing in an otherwise stacked Group G after going undefeated in qualifying. Besides, Serbia and Switzerland went undefeated in qualifying, while Cameroon collected three points in five of its six encounters in the Final Round. All three teams have the talent to play for Brazil, but I’m going with Serbia. Serbia has an attacking talent advantage in Dusan Vlahovic, Dusan Tadic, and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, which might be the difference.

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Prediction Group H

  • Group H1 – Uruguay
  • Group H2 – Portugal

With a generation that included Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez, Uruguay made the World Cup semifinals as recently as 2010. Darwin Nunez, Fede Valverde, and Ronald Araujo are all key players in a new Uruguayan generation. Portugal is transitioning into a new age, maybe under the wider shadow cast by Cristiano Ronaldo. Look for the Euro 2016 champions to make it out of Group H in what may be the 37-year-final old’s World Cup.

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Prediction of Knockout

16 Round

Group A was paired with Group B, Group C with D, Group E with F, and Group G with H in the Round of 16, with winners in one group facing runner-ups. Due to their placement on opposite sides of the bracket, teams from the same group can’t face each other again until the final.

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Prediction Knockout

Left side of bracket:
Right side of bracket:
A1 – Netherlands vs B2 – USA
B1 – England vs A2 – Senegal
C1 – Argentina vs D2 – France
D1 – Denmark vs C2 – Poland
E1 – Spain vs F2 – Canada
F1 – Germany vs E2 – Belgium
G1 – Brazil vs H2 – Portugal
H1 – Uruguay vs G2 – Serbia

The defending champions’ curse might strike France in the last 16, especially if it faces an Argentina side that has made significant progress under Lionel Scaloni. Meanwhile, despite the threat of attackers such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, and Diogo Jota, Brazil would fancy their chances of moving past Portugal.

The most intriguing last-16 matchup could be between Belgium and Germany. Roberto Martinez’s team is presently ranked No. 2 in the world. However, they struggled against an Italy team that preferred to play in a quick transition during Euro 2021. That strategy might be replicated in Germany.

Quarterfinals

  • C1 – Argentina vs A1 – Netherlands
  • E1 – Spain vs G1 – Brazil
  • B1 – England vs D1 – Denmark
  • F1 – Germany vs H1 – Uruguay

A reliable goal-scoring centre striker is something the Netherlands currently lacks, and Argentina does not have such an issue. On top of Messi, they have Paulo Dybala, Angel di Maria, and Lautaro Martinez in their starting lineup. Meanwhile, England should have Denmark’s number after defeating Denmark in the Euro 2021 semifinals.

A match between Brazil and Spain would be a proper show in the quarterfinals. Spain should have the structure to control games if they can make the most of the possibilities they create. Germany will also have the necessary experience to overcome a Uruguay team that is still developing.

Semifinals

  • E1 – Spain vs C1 – Argentina
  • B1 – England vs G1 – Germany

The semifinals in the World Cup are determined by the tiniest of margins, and there wouldn’t be much between these four teams. However, England’s current group has more experience than Germany at this stage, having competed in recent international championships.

Spain’s midfield might be the strongest at the 2022 World Cup, with Sergio Busquets revitalised by Xavi Hernandez’s arrival at Barcelona and the Camp Nou core capable of doing just as much for Spain in 2022 as it did in 2010. Messi comes close to winning the World Cup but falls short of restoring Argentina’s dominance.

Final

  • E1 – Spain vs B1 – England

Southgate prefers his England team to play with a sturdy anchor, so this would be a final decision in the middle of the pitch. During Euro 2021, Kalvin Phillips and Declan Rice were favourites, but Spain would be able to beat the Three Lions at their own game and cut off Harry Kane’s supply line.

At Euro 2021, there was a sense that Spain was on the verge of winning a championship, and it appears to be on track to succeed in Qatar two years later.

Match schedule of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group H: Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, and South Korea

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group H, Cristiano Ronaldo will feature in what might be his final World Cup in Qatar 2022, and he has a good chance of making the knockout stages, as Portugal appears to be the top team in Group H.

Following the draw in Doha on April 1, the famous footballer and his teammates will be joined in the group stage by Ghana, Uruguay, and South Korea.

World Cup champions on two occasions Uruguay is the group’s second-best team, and they’ll be looking to repeat their 2018 performance, when they advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to eventual champions France.

Ghana qualified by defeating Nigeria, while South Korea and talismanic striker Son Heung-min will attempt to upset the perceived footballing powers, as they did in Russia 2018.

In the Round of 16, the two clubs that move forward from Group H would face a team from Group G.

Each of the four teams in the group will play the other three nations in a round-robin system. The points from those three group-stage matches are used to determine the group rankings – three points for a victory, one point for a tie, and none for a defeat.

The single-game knockouts are held for the top two clubs in each group based on total points. If two clubs are tied on points, the first tiebreaker is goal differential, followed by goals scored. If teams are tied in those areas as well, a different set of tiebreakers is used.

Portugal

  • Current FIFA world ranking:  8th (March 2022)
  • Regional ranking:  6th (UEFA)
  • World Cup titles:
  • World Cup appearances (last):  7 (Russia 2018)
  • Manager:  Fernando Santos since September 2014
  • Star players:  Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United / England), Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United / England), Bernardo Silva (Manchester City / England)
  • How qualified:  UEFA playoff winners: 2-0 vs North Macedonia
  • Overall record (all competitions & friendlies):
    • 2022:  Win-2 / Lose-0 / Draw-0  (Goals: 5 scored / 1 conceded)
    • 2021:  Win-9 / Lose-3 / Draw-4  (Goals: 34 scored / 15 conceded)

Portugal, as expected, qualified for Qatar 2022 via the playoffs, beating North Macedonia and securing a spot in the finals for the seventh time. Portugal despite being regular contenders in the FIFA World Cup because they have yet to win.

This year’s World Cup will be Cristiano Ronaldo’s last involvement. In Qatar, all eyes will be on the 37-year-old legend, who will be a key player looking to add a first-team global title to his already impressive trophy cabinet. A Manchester United teammate, Bruno Fernandes, will also be key for the Euro 2016 champions.

Despite their offensive prowess, Portugal’s defence has been particularly impressive recently, with only six goals conceded in their previous ten games across all competitions.

Ghana

  • Current FIFA world ranking:  60th (March 2022)
  • Regional ranking: 11st (CAF)
  • World Cup titles:
  • World Cup appearances (last):  4 (Brazil 2014)
  • Manager:  Otto Addo since January 2022 — interim
  • Star players:  Thomas Partey (Arsenal / England), Mohammed Kudus (Ajax / Netherlands), Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace / England)
  • How qualified:  CAF Third Round winners: agg 1-1 vs. Nigeria, Ghana win on away goals
  • Overall record (all competitions & friendlies):
    • 2022:  Win-0 / Lose-3 / Draw-3  (Goals: 4 scored / 9 conceded)
    • 2021:  Win-5 / Lose-2 / Draw-3  (Goals: 11 scored / 6 conceded)

Ghana will be in Qatar after a brave effort in the qualifying rounds, when they upset Nigeria on away goals in the African playoffs to secure a place in the tournament for the first time since 2014. In 2010, the Black Stars came so close to making the World Cup semifinals, but were defeated on penalties by Uruguay in the last eight.

Despite the fact that there aren’t as many famous names in this year’s roster as there were in the 2010 and 2014 editions, players like Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey and teenage Ajax prodigy Mohammed Kudus will be stars to watch as the event approaches.

Grit and drive are embedded in the fabric of this Ghana team, which lost just two of their ten matches in 2021, but a disastrous Africa Cup of Nations campaign — in which they withdrew at the group stage without a win — means they have a point to prove on the big stage again.

Uruguay

  • Current FIFA world ranking:  13rd (March 2022)
  • Regional ranking:  3rd (CONMEBOL)
  • World Cup titles:  2
  • World Cup appearances (last):  14 (Russia 2018)
  • Manager :  Diego Alonso since December 2021
  • Star players:  Edinson Cavani (Manchester United / England), Luis Suarez (Atletico Madrid / Spain), Diego Godin (Atletico Mineiro / Brazil)
  • How qualified:  CONMEBOL third place: 8W-6L-4D
  • Overall record (all competitions & friendlies):
    • 2022:  Win-4 / Lose-0 / Draw-0  (Goals: 8 scored / 1 conceded)
    •  2021:  Win-4 / Lose-5 / Draw-6  (Goals: 11 scored / 16 conceded)

Although Uruguay’s team is good, the year 2021 Uruguay’s performance was so uncertain, because they were eliminated in the Copa America quarterfinal after having expectations for much more.

Uruguay also advanced to the last eight of the 2018 World Cup, where they were defeated by eventual champions France. Qatar will be no exception to the South American tradition of generating players capable of individual brilliance. Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani, both 35, are players who are still capable of posing a serious threat in front of the goal.

Uruguay has had a better start to 2022, winning four straight games, including a morale-boosting 2-0 victory against Chile in late March. Concerns remain, though, about their capacity to adapt against projected tougher opponents given the squad’s top-heavy age.

South Korea

  • Current FIFA world ranking:  29th (March 2022)
  • Regional ranking:  3rd (AFC)
  • World Cup titles:
  • World Cup appearances (last):  10 (Russia 2018)
  • Manager:  Paulo Bento since August 2018
  • Star players:  Son Heung-min (Tottenham / England), Hwang Hee-chan (Wolves / England), Kim Min-jae (Fenerbahce / Turkey)
  • How qualified:  AFC Third Round Group A runners-up 7W-L1-D2
  • Overall record (all competitions & friendlies):
    • 2022:  Win-5 / Lose-1 / Draw-0  (Goals: 14 scored / 1 conceded)
    • 2021:  Win-7 / Lose-1 / Draw-2  (Goals: 20 scored / 6 conceded)

South Korea hasn’t missed a World Cup since 1982, and Paulo Bento’s side will compete in Qatar to continue that trend.

South Korea came in second place in a tight third-round qualification group, losing only in the final match and already having qualified for the finals. Bento’s team had been on a seven-match winning streak prior to that, and they will be hoping for a similar run heading into the World Cup, where they will be looking to go past the group stage for the first time since 2010.

Son Heung-min is South Korea’s most well-known difference-maker, having scored a lot of goals for both club and country. Hwang Hee-chan of the Wolves is also a key character for the Tigers of Asia. South Korea’s finest World Cup achievement came in 2002, when they reached the semi-finals on home soil — would they be able to repeat that performance in the Middle East?

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group H to advance

December 5 & 6, the first- and second-place finishers in Group H will proceed to the Round of 16, where they will meet the two teams who advanced from Group G.

Match schedule of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group G: Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, and Cameroon

The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group G included the No. 1 rated team in the world, Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, and Cameroon.

Brazil, led by Neymar, will be heavily favoured to advance to the knockout stages, but they will face intense competition from the two European teams that qualified for the finals automatically by finishing ahead of so-called superior teams in Portugal and Italy.

Cameroon will provide experience and vigour after qualifying for the   with a playoff win against Algeria.

Brazil is expected to win the group, with the other three squads vying for the second qualifying spot and a place in the knockout stages.

In the Round of 16, the two clubs from Group G would face a team from Group H.

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group G Teams Overview

Brazil

  • Current FIFA world ranking:  1st (March 2022)
  • Regional ranking:  1st (CONMEBOL)
  • World Cup titles:  5
  • World Cup appearances (last):  21 (Russia 2018)
  • Manager:  Tite since June 2016
  • Star players:  Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain / France), Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain / France), Vinicius Jr. (Real Madrid / Spain)
  • How qualified:  CONMEBOL World Cup Qualification winners: 14W-0L-3D
  • Overall record (all competitions & friendlies):
    •  2022:  Win-3 / Lose-0 / Draw-1  (Goals: 13 scored / 1 conceded)
    • 2021:  Win-12 / Lose-1 / Draw-3  (Goals: 27 scored / 5 conceded)

Brazil played an important role in the World Cup, and the Selecao will look to end Europe’s domination on the grandest stage for the first time since their fifth victory in 2002.

Although Argentina defeated their old rivals in the Copa America final last year, many observers believe Brazil is the side most likely to reclaim control of the World Cup for South America.

Angel Di Maria’s lone effort at the Maracana in July was Brazil’s only loss in 2021, and one of only five goals they conceded. Their chances will be determined by how well their attacking forces work together, with Neymar under pressure to finally win a World Cup worthy of his ability with Real Madrid wonder Vinicius Jr.

Serbia

  • Current FIFA world ranking:  25th (March 2022)
  • Regional ranking: 14th (UEFA)
  • World Cup titles:
  • World Cup appearances (last):  12 (Russia 2018)
  • Manager:  Dragan Stojkovic since March, 2021
  • Star players:  Dusan Tadic (Ajax / Netherlands), Aleksandar Mitrovic (Fulham / England), Luka Jovic (Real Madrid / Spain)
  • How qualified:  UEFA Group A winners: 6W-0L-2D
  • Overall record (all competitions & friendlies):

    • 2021:  Win-8 / Lose-1 / Draw-5  (Goals: 27 scored / 11 conceded)

Serbia did not qualify for Euro 2020, but it did earn a spot in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar by finishing first and unbeaten in a difficult qualifying group that included Portugal. In fact, the Balkan nation was automatically entered into the draw after a late win over Cristiano Ronaldo and his team in November.

Dusan Tadic’s creativity and skill will undoubtedly cause difficulties for their group opponents, while Aleksandar Mitrovic and Luka Jovic provide other attacking alternatives. They could surprise a lot of people if they play with cohesiveness.

Dragan Stojkovic, a former Red Star Belgrade player, has only lost two games since assuming control of Serbia in March of last year, making his side a challenge to defend against.

Switzerland

  • Current FIFA world ranking:  14th (March 2022)
  • Regional ranking:  10th (UEFA)
  • World Cup titles:
  • World Cup appearances (last):  11 (Russia 2018)
  • Manager:  Murat Yakin since August, 2021

    • 2021:  Win-10 / Lose-1 / Draw-6  (Goals: 37 scored / 15 conceded)

Switzerland ended World Cup qualification with a bang, defeating Bulgaria 4-0 at home in November to cement their position atop Group C and secure an automatic entry in Qatar.

Murat Yakin’s team was undefeated in qualification, conceding only two goals, and will be one to monitor when the competition proper begins, with a defence that is powerful from the back but also skilled in unlocking the opposition.

Xerdan Shaqiri, now with the Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer, is the star, and the 30-year-old will be expected to guide the squad and give a creative spark.

Cameroon

  • Current FIFA world ranking:  37th (March 2022)
  • Regional ranking:  6th (CAF)
  • World Cup titles:
  • World Cup appearances (last):  7 (Brazil 2014)
  • Manager:  Rigobert Song since February 2022
  • Star players:  Vincent Aboubakar(Al Nassr / Saudi Arabia), Andre Onana (Ajax / Netherlands), Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (Bayern Munich / Germany)
  • How qualified:  CAF Third Round winners: agg 2-2 vs. Algeria, Cameroon win on away goals
  • Overall record (all competitions & friendlies):
    • 2022:  Win-5 / Lose-1 / Draw-3  (Goals: 16 scored / 9 conceded)
    • 2021:  Win-8 / Lose-4 / Draw-4  (Goals: 18 scored / 14 conceded)

With a stunning aggregate winner-take-all victory against Algeria in late March, World Cup veterans Cameroon secured a comeback to the finals for the first time since 2014.

The Unstoppable Lions will be making their eighth World Cup outing and can count on a number of experienced players who might be major contributors in Qatar. Vincent Aboubakar and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting are both seasoned international talents who will be held to high expectations.

Cameroon’s best finish in the competition was a quarterfinal appearance in Italy in 1990, and charismatic coach Rigobert Song — a former Liverpool player who made four World Cup appearances — will assume his side has a chance to achieve the knockout stage again after finishing third at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Match schedule of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group F: Belgium, Croatia, Canada, and Morocco

The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group F, Belgium, Croatia, Canada, and Morocco are all poised to compete for a spot in the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

In this group, 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia will face 2018 World Cup semi finalists Belgium in a clash that will undoubtedly be seen across the world.

Canada will compete in the event for the first time since 1986, and they will be hopeful about their potential of reaching the knockout stage after placing first in their qualification group. Morocco is the other team in Group F, hoping to reclaim the African flag following a creditable 2-2 draw with Spain in Russia 2018.

On Wednesday, November 23, Belgium will face Canada in the first match of the group stage, while Morocco will face Croatia on the same day.

In the Round of 16, the two clubs from Group F would face a team from Group E.

Each of the four teams in the group will play the other three nations in a round-robin form. The points from those three group-stage games are used to determine the group rankings – three points for a victory, one point for a tie, and none for a defeat.

The single-game knockouts are held for the top two squads in each group based on total points. If two clubs are tied on points, the first tiebreaker is goal differential, followed by goals scored. If teams are tied in those areas as well, a different set of tiebreakers is used.

IFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group F Teams Overview

Belgium, one of the best in the region for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022, has been assigned to Group F, which includes Croatia, Morocco, and Canada.

Before the event, here’s a look at each club.

Belgium

  • Current FIFA world ranking:  2nd (March 2022)
  • Regional ranking:  1st (UEFA)
  • World Cup titles:
  • World Cup appearances (last):  13 (Russia 2018)
  • Manager:  Roberto Martinez since August 2016
  • Star Players:  Kevin De Bryune (Manchester City / England), Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea / England), Eden Hazard (Real Madrid / Spain)
  • How qualified:  UEFA Group E winners: 6W-0L-2D
  • Overall record (all competitions & friendlies):
    • 2022:  Win-1 / Lose-0 / Draw-1  (Goals: 5 scored / 2 conceded)
    • 2021:  Win-11 / Lose-3 / Draw-3  (Goals: 39 scored / 15 conceded)

Belgium may no longer be the world’s top-ranked squad, having been surpassed by Brazil in the FIFA rankings, but they can still call on several key members of their great era and will be expected to perform well in Qatar.\

Coach Roberto Martinez, on the other hand, must hope that this is the year the Red Devils finally live up to the pre-tournament hype and win some trophies. It could be difficult to stop with players like Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku.

Belgium was eliminated in the quarterfinals of Euro 2020 and was knocked out of the 2018 World Cup semis. They have a decent possibility of advancing far again this time, but they will need to be more composed in tense situations.

Croatia

  • Current FIFA world ranking:  16th  (March 2022)
  • Regional ranking:  11st (UEFA)
  • World Cup titles:
  • World Cup appearances (last):  5 (Russia 2018)
  • Manager:  Zlatko Dalic since October 2017
  • Star players:  Luka Modric (Real Madrid / Spain), Ivan Perisic (Inter Milan / Italy), Domagoj Vida (Besiktas / Turkey)
  • How qualified:  UEFA Group H winners: 7W-1L-2D
  • Overall record (all competitions & friendlies):
    • 2022:  Win-1 / Lose-0 / Draw-1  (Goals: 3 scored / 1 conceded)
    •  2021:  Win-8 / Lose-4 / Draw-4  (Goals: 29 scored / 14 conceded)

Croatia has also been assigned to Group F of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Croatia stunned many by making the 2018 World Cup final, where they were defeated by France. However, they didn’t perform as well at Euro 2020, where they were dismissed in the Round of 16.

Luka Modric, the cornerstone of Real Madrid, is still a fantastic player despite his advanced age. The 35-year-old will be looking to make an impression in what will almost certainly be his final World Cup.

Croatia shined in qualification, losing only once — in Slovenia — but despite being hopeful of progressing from the group stage, it’s hard to see Zlatko Dalic’s team having another long run in the tournament.

Morocco

  • Current FIFA world ranking:  24th  (March 2022)
  • Regional ranking:  2nd  (CAF)
  • World Cup titles:
  • World Cup appearances (last):  5 (Russia 2018)
  • Manager:  Vahid Halilhodzic since August 2019
  • Star players:  Sofaine Boufal (Angers / France), Achraf Hakimi (Paris Saint-Germain / France), Ayoub Al Kaabi (Hatayspor / Turkey)
  • How qualified:  CAF Third Round winner: agg 5-2 vs. DR Congo
  • Overall record (all competitions & friendlies):
    • 2022:  Win-4 / Lose-1 / Draw-2  (Goals: 13 scored / 7 conceded)
    • 2021:  Win-17 / Lose-0 / Draw-3  (Goals: 49 scored / 6 conceded)

Morocco is considered one of the best teams on the African continent, and they will have plenty of star power in Qatar 2022, where they will compete for the sixth time in the finals.

Much will be expected of Paris Saint-Germain full-back Achraf Hakimi, but he should be well backed by the likes of Sofaine Boufal — who has Premier League experience having previously played for Southampton — and Ayoub Al Kaabi, who plays for Hatayspor in the Turkish Super Lig and is the team’s most potent top striker.

Morocco advanced to the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year before being eliminated by eventual champions Egypt, and might be a surprise contender to reach the final.

Canada

  • Current FIFA world ranking:  38th  (March 2022)
  • Regional ranking:  4th (CONCACAF)
  • World Cup titles:
  • World Cup appearances (last):  1 (Mexico 1986)
  • Manager:  John Herdman since January 2018
  • Star players:  Jonathan David (Lille / France), Junior Hoilett (Reading / England), Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich / Germany)
  • How qualified: CONCACAF winners: 8W-2L-4D
  • Overall record (all competitions & friendlies):
    • 2022:  Win-4 / Lose-2 / Draw-0  (Goals: 10 scored / 2 conceded)
    • 2021:  Win-13 / Lose-2 / Draw-4  (Goals: 55 scored / 11 conceded)

For the first time in 36 years, Canada will compete in the World Cup after an excellent qualification campaign that saw them finish first in the CONCACAF standings.

As they clinched the spot in Qatar by defeating Jamaica 4-0 in Toronto in late March, that was a huge milestone for both players and supporters, with talisman Alphonso Davies breaking down in tears live on his Twitch broadcast as he watched his team finish the mission.

Davies missed that game after contracting myocarditis (heart inflammation) after contracting COVID-19, and Canada will need the Bayern Munich star back and blazing on all cylinders if they are to advance. Coach John Herdman will be attempting to make history by becoming the first individual to guide a team to the World Cups in both the women’s and men’s divisions.

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Group F to advance

December 5 & 6, the first- and second-place finishers in Group F will proceed to the Round of 16, where they will meet the two teams who advanced from Group E.
