IPL 2022: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) SWOT Analysis and Schedule

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction, defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) could reclaim a significant portion of their core from the previous season. After keeping Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, the yellow army headed into the auction with a total purse of INR 48 crore. The franchise also had a successful auction, as they were able to re-sign Deepak Chahar, Ambati Rayudu, Robin Uthappa, and Dwayne Bravo. All of them were key players in their championship-winning season in 2021.

Because the franchise was unable to re-sign long-serving opener Faf du Plessis, CSK has enlisted the services of Devon Conway of New Zealand. Mitchell Santner, a bowling all-rounder, and his partner Adam Milne were among the Kiwis that joined the yellow camp. Dwayne Bravo, Jadeja, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, and Dwaine Pretorius will attempt to fill the all-rounder role.

Along with Chris Jordan and Milne, Deepak Chahar, who has signed for INR 14 crore by CSK, will lead the bowling attack for the squad. Simarjeet Singh, Tushar Deshpande, Mukesh Choudhary, Subhranshu Senapati, Prashant Solanki, C Hari Nishaanth, N Jagadeesan, and K Bhagath Varma are among CSK’s domestic players.

Chennai Super Kings Squad For IPL 2022:

MS Dhoni (c), Mukesh Choudhary, Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Deepak Chahar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa, Dwayne Bravo, KM Asif, and Tushar Deshpande, Shivam Dube, Maheesh Theekshana, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, N Jagadeesan, Chris Jordan, Simarjeet Singh, Devon Conway, Dwaine Pretorius, Mitchell Santner, Adam Milne, Subhranshu Senapati, Prashant Solanki, C Hari Nishaant, K Bhagath Varma

Chennai Super Kings SWOT Analysis IPL 2022 :

Strength – Experience batting squad in CSK

Ms Dhoni will continue to lead CSK

When it comes to young blood, CSK is notorious for going for the experience. Except for the 2020 season, when they finished eighth on the points table, the franchise has performed remarkably well under MS Dhoni’s leadership.

As seen in the past, tight finishes are standard in the IPL. As a result, the squad’s extensive experience will be one of their greatest assets in the 2018 IPL season. CSK has several seasoned pros, including Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, and Mitchell Santner, and all of them have played in this competition for several years.

The Super Kings’ hitting depth is another essential element in their lineup. Devon Conway is slated to open the innings alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad. Experienced batters like Ambati Rayudu, Robin Uthappa, and Moeen Ali will bat in the middle order. MS Dhoni, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shivam Dube will all be looking for a good finish for the franchise.

Weakness – CSK death bowling problem

Chris Jordan joined CSK bowling unit

Death bowling is a crucial issue for the franchise. Chris Jordan and Tushar Deshpande have been brought in to fix the problem, with all-rounder Dwayne Bravo providing backup in the bowling unit. On the other hand, Jordan and Bravo have been taken to the cleaners in the past.

Tushar Deshpande, a pace bowler who played for the Delhi Capitals last season, has bowled in the death overs for the team, although he lacks experience and can also go for runs. As a result, Deepak Chahar will be tasked with taking wickets at regular intervals and halting the flow of runs.

During the middle period of the match, it will be interesting to observe how skipper Dhoni will employ the available spin options like Jadeja and Moeen. Due to field constraints, Mitchell Santner was noted for his ability to elude batters, which could be an excellent alternative to bowl during the first six innings.

Opportunity – Indian batters will have chance

Ruturaj Gaikwad

With the T20 World Cup approaching this year, players like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube have an excellent opportunity to state their case and gain the selectors’ confidence. Uncapped players N Jagadeesan and Tushar Deshpande can also take advantage of the opportunity to exhibit their abilities in the world’s most prestigious T20 tournament.

Following the IPL 2022, the Indian cricket team will play a five-match T20I series against South Africa before travelling to England to play the rescheduled fifth Test match, three T20Is, and an equal number of ODIs before the start of the crucial T20 World Cup in 2022.

The individuals, as mentioned earlier, could potentially improve their limited prospects of competing in the worldwide event if the selectors give chances to in-form players. It will be fascinating to observe who among the Indian batters takes advantage of this opportunity.

Threats – Various foreign players

Moeen Ali

One of the challenges the team will have to deal with is deciding on their four abroad players. At the same time, Moeen Ali and Dwayne Bravo are two foreign players who will almost certainly make the team. The team will also be trying to fill the vacuum left by the departure of Josh Hazlewood, who death-over specialist Chris Jordan will replace.

Devon Conway, Dwaine Pretorius, and Mitchell Santner would likely be a toss-up with three spots already filled in the team. However, alongside Gaikwad, New Zealand opener Conway, who has proven his worth at the international level, is expected to be the first pick to start the innings.

Chennai Super Kings Schedule In IPL 2022

The Chennai Super Kings will be held to a high standard in the IPL 2022 since they will be defending their championship. CSK, who had a disappointing 2020 season in the UAE, missing out on the playoffs for the first time, made a spectacular recovery in the 2021 season, winning the premier tournament for the fourth time after defeating a resurgent Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in the summit battle.

The 15th season of the premier competition begins on March 26, and CSK will look to continue where they left off in their pursuit of a record-tying fifth IPL crown. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the schedule for the highly-anticipated tournament with less than three weeks to go, and title-holders Chennai will open the proceedings against last season’s final opponents KKR.

The Chennai Super Kings have suffered a severe setback as they prepare to defend their crown. Their key bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar is projected to miss a significant amount of the IPL 2022 season due to a quadriceps rupture. It remains to be seen who will step up to fill those enormous shoes beginning March 26.

IPL 2022: Punjab Kings (PBKS) SWOT Analysis and Schedule

At the IPL 2022 super auction earlier this month, Punjab Kings was one of the franchises that made some exciting purchases. PBKS made 23 purchases at the two-day auction in Bengaluru, including Shikhar Dhawan for INR 8.5 crore, South African pacer Kagiso Rabada for INR 9.25 crore, England limited-overs specialist Jonny Bairstow for INR 6.75 crore, and West Indies all-rounder Odean Smith for INR 6 crore.

The 2014 champions have rebuilt their roster to win their first IPL title. On the other hand, Punjab has failed to make the playoffs in the last seven seasons. As the new-look Punjab Kings prepare to make history in the upcoming IPL 2022, here’s everything you need to know about the team.

Punjab Kings Squad For IPL 2022:

Mayank Agarwal, Arshdeep Singh, Rahul Chahar, Shahrukh Khan, Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Jonny Bairstow, Harpreet Brar, Prabhsimran Singh, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Jitesh Sharma, Odean Smith, Sandeep Sharma, Raj Bawa, Rishi Dhawan, Prerak Mankad, Ishan Porel, Liam Livingstone, Vaibhav Arora, Writtick Chatterjee, Baltej Dhanda, Ansh Patel, Nathan Ellis, Atharva Taide, Benny Howell

Punjab Kings SWOT Analysis IPL 2022 :

Strength – Depth batting line-up

PBKS big-hitters shikhar dhawan

The Punjab Kings feature perhaps the strongest batting squad in the league, with big-hitters like Shikhar Dhawan, Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow, Odean Smith, Mayank Agarwal, and Shahrukh Khan, as well as Mayank Agarwal and Shahrukh Khan.

While PBKS invested in batters with a strong reputation in the shorter format, it is Shikhar Dhawan’s faith in him that may ultimately count the most since he is one of the most consistent performances in IPL history and can single-handedly get the club off to a flying start when he is in top form.

With 5784 runs from 192 matches at an average of 34.84 and a strike rate of 126.64, the southpaw is the second-highest run-getter in the cash-rich event. The graceful batter, who has the most experience on the team, might be the franchise’s next captain beginning this season.

Weakness – Lack of spinner in PBKS

Rahul Chahar take care of PBKS spin attack

Rahul Chahar, the leg-spinner, is expected to handle the spin attack independently. While PBKS was able to get several strong batters, they could have benefited from the addition of a handful of more seasoned spinners. Who will offer Chahar the much-needed help in the middle overs remains to be seen.

Punjab signed Chahar for INR 5.25 crore but, despite having the most excellent purse among the ten franchises (INR 72 crore), lost out on adding an experienced spinner. They could have bought Rashid Khan, Adil Rashid, or the current top-ranked T20I spinner Tabraiz Shamsi.

With only one experienced spinner, PBKS will count on the former Mumbai Indians leggie to inflict the most damage by deceiving the best in the industry.

Opportunity – PBKS middle-order look promising

Liam Livingstone impact the PBKS middle-order

With the addition of Liam Livingstone and the purchase of Shahrukh Khan, the middle-order looks quite potential. If given opportunities during the season, the duo can score runs at a rapid pace and add finishing touches to Punjab’s innings. They will also be helpful while chasing targets.

The 2014 runners-up have spent a lot of money to improve their batting, and now that that’s taken care of, the top-order should be able to provide some early starts, while the middle-order should be able to make the most of the foundation that will be created. The batting of the Punjab Kings might be described as comprehensive.

Threats – Pacer looks undercooked

Kagiso Rabada

Except for Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh, and to a lesser extent, Rishi Dhawan, the bowling attack appears to be a touch undercooked, and opposition teams could rely on it in the competition. PBKS will be expecting regular breakthroughs from Rabada and Arshdeep, and if both have a difficult day, the remaining bowlers might be ripped apart. The tall Proteas bowler would be expected to hit all cylinders throughout the competition more than anything else.

If Arshdeep shares the new ball with Rabada, the supporting cast of Sandeep Sharma and Rishi Dhawan would be required to operate in tandem with the new ball bowlers. While Sharma has many IPL experience, Dhawan was brought into the Punjab squad following an outstanding domestic season with Himachal Pradesh. He led the team to a first-ever title.

Even though Arshdeep Singh was the franchise’s first-choice bowler, Kagiso Rabada has been brought to the roster to help with the pace attack. Nonetheless, only time will tell if their speed choices other than these two gel, particularly when bowling alterations in the Powerplay and death bowling.

Punjab Kings Schedule In IPL 2022

The Punjab Kings are only three clubs that have competed for all 15 seasons without winning a championship. They’ve looked excellent at times over the years but fallen short when it mattered most. They had their finest season in league with a second-place finish in the 2014 season so far.

The Kings, on the other hand, have looked to choke under pressure despite having all of the tools they’ve had in previous seasons. There have been occasions where the side has lost from a position of strength. Such failures have harmed their fortunes in recent seasons, and it’s something the team’s management will want to address when they kick off their IPL 2022 campaign on March 27th at the DY Patil Stadium against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

IPL 2022: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) SWOT Analysis and Schedule

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), who are in their inaugural season, were the only team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction to use their whole budget. After signing KL Rahul (INR 17 crore), Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis (INR 9.2 crore), and leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi (INR 4 crore) in the draught, the club entered the super auction with a total of INR 59.98 crore.

The franchise, led by Gautam Gambhir, made several savvy auction purchases, including South African star batsman Quinton de Kock (INR 6.75 crore), Manish Pandey (INR 4.6 crore), and Evin Lewis (INR 4.6 crore) (INR 2 crore). Jason Holder (INR 8.75 crore), Krunal Pandya (INR 8.25 crore), and Deepak Hooda (5.75 crore) were among the all-rounders purchased by LSG.

With the new cherry, pacer Avesh Khan (INR 10 crore), who has risen through the ranks in previous IPL seasons and even made it to the national squad, would be handed the duty. Mark Wood (INR 7.5 crore) of England and Dushmanta Chameera (INR 2 crore) of Sri Lanka will be among the options to open the bowling assault alongside Khan.

Lucknow Super Giants Squad For IPL 2022:

KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Jason Holder, Ravi Bishnoi, Manan Vohra, Mohsin Khan, Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, Manish Pandey, Krunal Pandya, Avesh Khan, Ayush Badoni, Ankit Singh Rajpoot, Krishnappa Gowtham, Dushmanta Chameera, Shahbaz Nadeem, Kyle Mayers, Karan Sharma, Mark Wood, Evin Lewis, Mayank Yadav

Lucknow Super Giants SWOT Analysis IPL 2022 :

Strengths – Have good bowling options

Jason Holder in LSG Bowling line-up

LSG has a well-balanced bowling lineup going into the event. The fast-bowling department will be handled by pacers Mark Wood, Avesh Khan, and Jason Holder, who deliver early breakthroughs during the field limitations. Avesh Khan and Dushmanta Chameera can help stop the flow of runs in the death overs.

In addition, the franchise has a very active spin-bowling section. LSG features a range of finger spinners in Krishnappa Gowtham and Krunal Pandya, led by wrist-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who has done exceptionally well for the Punjab Kings previous seasons. It’ll be intriguing to see whether skipper Rahul opts to deploy his finger spin options during the powerplay overs while saving overs from his speed bowlers for the death overs.

Weakness – Inexperienced Indian batters

KL Rahul

Despite having an explosive opening batting partnership in KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock, the lack of another seasoned Indian batsman may hinder the club. As a third option, Manish Pandey has been added to LSG’s batting order. However, he did not have a good time in the IPL 2021, while Manan Vohra has only made occasional appearances in the competition and is yet to impress.

Deepak Hooda, Marcus Stoinis, Krishnappa Gowtham, and Krunal Pandya are LSG’s strong power hitters. On the other hand, the franchise needs a batter who can stay with the team throughout the innings and serve as an anchor, and it will be up to captain Rahul and De Kock to fulfil that role.

Opportunity – Power hitters can show their nerve

Marcus Stoinis

Krunal Pandya, Marcus Stoinis, Jason Holder, Deepak Hooda, and Krishnappa Gowtham are LSG’s five all-rounder choices. All five batters have proved in the past that they can provide big hits, especially after innings, to help the franchise finish strong.

With the ICC T20 World Cup starting in October, this year’s IPL will be an excellent opportunity for LSG all-rounders, particularly Indian players, to make their case for selection. The Men in Blue are looking for a couple of power hitters down the order in their current home season. They have tried numerous possibilities, including Venkatesh Iyer, Shardul Thakur, and Deepak Hooda. This could be the ideal occasion for LSG all-rounders to show their worth and be considered for the national team.

Threats – Various foreign players available in LSG

LSG will have Evin Lewis in thier team

Skipper Rahul and mentor Gambhir will have their work cut out with four foreign players to choose from for the starting XI. Stoinis, an all-rounder, and De Kock, a wicketkeeper-batsman, are expected to make the team. LSG has far too many alternatives when choosing its following two international players.

LSG will have to choose between Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, and Evin Lewis, two of his compatriots. Similarly, it’d be a coin flip between pacer Dushmanta Chameera and Mark Wood to join Avesh Khan to spearhead the pace attack.

Lucknow Super Giants Schedule In IPL 2022

On March 28, the brand-new Lucknow Super Giants will take on another brand-new franchise, the Gujarat Titans, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

LSG will face the Chennai Super Kings at the Brabourne Stadium on March 31 after their first game against the Gujarat Titans. They will face SRH at the DY Patil Stadium on April 4. They will continue to play at the DY Patil Stadium on April 7 to face the Delhi Capitals. On April 10, they will play the Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium.

One of the most challenging obstacles for the Lucknow franchise will be facing the Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium, as it will be their first-afternoon game. On April 19, KL Rahul will face his city franchise, the Royal Challengers Bangalore, at the DY Patil Stadium.

On April 24, they will play their second game against the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium. KL Rahul, the captain, will face his former franchise Punjab Kings in their first game outside of Mumbai on April 29 at the MCA Stadium in Pune. On May 1, they will face DC for the second time at Wankhede Stadium.

On the 7th and 10th of May, they will play two back-to-back games in Pune, against KKR and GT, respectively. On May 15, they will meet the Rajasthan Royals at the Brabourne Stadium, and the DY Patil Stadium will host the Lucknow Supergiants in their final league game on May 18 versus KKR.

IPL 2022: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) SWOT Analysis and Schedule

Kolkata Knight Riders were one of the teams that made some extraordinarily clever and unusual purchases at the IPL 2022 mega auction earlier this month. After saying goodbye to some of their more experienced players, such as Dinesh Karthik and Eoin Morgan, KKR signed the dynamic batsman Shreyas Iyer for INR 12.25 crore, senior Test batsman Ajinkya Rahane for INR 1 crore, England white-ball specialist Sam Billings for INR 2 crore, and one of the most promising domestic talents Sheldon Jackson for INR 60 lakh, to name a few.

Similarly, Kolkata made an impression on the first day of the two-day event in Bengaluru by making sure they covered all of their bases. They also repurchased some of their older players, such as Australian Test captain Pat Cummins for INR 7.25 crore, middle-order batsman Nitish Rana for INR 8 crore, and promising bowler Shivam Mavi for INR 7.25 crore, to establish a solid foundation as the franchise aims to carry on its heritage.

Kolkata Knight Riders squad for IPL 2022:

Shreyas Iyer, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Sam Billings, Alex Hales, Mohammad Nabi, Pat Cummins, Varun Chakravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana, Shivam Mavi, Sheldon Jackson, Ajinkya Rahane, Rinku Singh, Anukul Roy, Rasikh Dar, Baba Indrajith, Chamika Karunaratne, Abhijeet Tomar, Pratham Singh, Ashok Sharma, Tim Southee, Ramesh Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Aman Khan

Kolkata Knight Riders SWOT analysis IPL 2022 :

Strengths – Shreyas Iyer as KKR new captain
Shreyas Iyer

The Kolkata Knight Riders named Shreyas Iyer their new captain, only days after the IPL 2022 super auction ended. Eoin Morgan will hand over the reins to him. Morgan, who was promoted to captain in the second half of IPL 2020, led KKR to the finals last season, but his batsmanship was poor, and he was dismissed by the team, with no takers this time around.

Iyer has extensive IPL captaincy experience, having guided the Delhi Capitals to their first playoffs in 2019 following the 2012 season and to their first final in 2020, when a strong Mumbai Indians defeated them. Iyer left DC because it became evident that Rishabh Pant will be their first-choice captain in the IPL 2022 season.

KKR wanted to resolve their captaincy issues permanently before the significant auction, and they have done so with the appointment of Shreyas Iyer. It remains to be seen whether Iyer’s expertise as a leader will propel the franchise to new heights this season.

Weakness – Lack of wicketkeeper

KKR Wicketkeeper sheldon jackson

The Kolkata Knight Riders were without a backup wicket keeper after the release of Dinesh Karthik, but now they have two after the end of the IPL 2022 big auction. Sheldon Jackson is one, while Sam Billings is the other. Sadly, neither of them could be considered a first-choice goalkeeper.

Jackson, who plays domestic cricket for Saurashtra, has yet to earn a cap. On the other hand, Billings is a backup wicketkeeper, and with Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler in England, the team haven’t had much of a chance to impress.

With no other solid possibilities, a shortage of an experienced first-choice stumper could hinder the Kolkata-based franchise in the 2022 edition.

Opportunity – Alex Hales can ensure brisk starts for KKR

Alex Hales will be KKR opener

In terms of T20 cricket, Alex Hales is in the prime of his career. At the IPL 2022 auction, he was expected to draw large offers, but no team put their faith in him. The Kolkata Knight Riders scored a bargain by purchasing him for INR 1.5 crore, and on paper, they have made an excellent investment.

Working in concert with another dangerous opening batter, Venkatesh Iyer, the explosive English opener is set to go after the opposition bowlers right from the start. Hales and Iyer can help Kolkata get out to a fast start, whether they’re setting goals or chasing them down.

KKR will be confident that they have a stable opening duo with skipper Shreyas Iyer at number three now that Hales has joined their club, and they appear to have one of the finest top-orders in the league.

Threats – Injury problems of KKR players

Andre Russell in KKR

While the two-time champions have a well-balanced squad for IPL 2022, injury fears for some of their key players may put them in jeopardy if they don’t have the appropriate substitutes. Andre Russell, a Caribbean power hitter, and Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, two mystery spinners, are among them. All of these superstars are dealing with injuries.

Russell’s injury could strain the middle order, particularly in the middle and death overs. However, if both Narine and Chakravarthy are injured at the same time, it will harm the entire spin department throughout the tournament, potentially halting their development.

The past champions will hope that all three of their key players stay healthy and available throughout the season as they attempt to win their third IPL title after falling short last year.

Kolkata Knight Riders schedule in IPL 2022

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who produced a fantastic comeback in the second leg of the 2021 edition in the United Arab Emirates, will play CSK in a rematch of the 2021 final in the first match of the 2022 season.

After last year’s final-hurdle heartbreak, the Knight Riders will be led by new skipper Shreyas Iyer and will be aiming for their third title.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural game at the MCA Stadium in Pune on March 29. Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium will host 20 matches apiece, while Brabourne and MCA International Stadium in Pune will host 15 matches each. There will be a total of 12 double-headers, with the opening match beginning at 15:30 IST/ 16:00 BDT. At 19:30 IST/ 20:00 BDT, all evening matches will begin.

This year’s matches will be played in a new format, with the BCCI abandoning the former structure of each team facing each other twice in the league round. Based on the number of titles won and the finals contested, ten teams are separated into two groups, A and B.
