Maxwell deserves to be Australia’s captain: Ponting

Australia was eliminated before reaching the semi-finals of the last Twenty20 World Cup. Many people have expressed their disappointment in Australia’s poor performance in the World Cup. Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting wants to see Glenn Maxwell as the captain instead of Aaron Finch for this bad performance.

 

Ponting claimed that Maxwell has proved himself in IPL and Big Bash. He said, “Maxwell has proved himself in the IPL and the Big Bash. I think it’s reasonable to pick him. I don’t think Pat Cummins wants to take the lead. I’m quite surprised that he’s taking the ODI captaincy.”

 

Mitchell Marsh’s name was also heard earlier about Australia’s captaincy. However, Ponting said that he does not want to take the responsibility of captaincy. He said, “Marsh has said he wants to play but doesn’t want to think about captaincy. So, I think Maxwell is probably the best fit in Australia’s current squad.”
