Faf du Plessis grabs IPL 2023 Orange Cap while Mohammed Siraj takes Purple Cap

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 continued its thrilling run on Thursday with a double-header day. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) won their matches in different styles. While RCB climbed to the fifth position in the IPL 2023 Points Table with their third win in six matches, DC, on the other hand, remained at the bottom of the table with just one win in six matches.

 

In the IPL 2023, Faf du Plessis managed to retain the prestigious Orange Cap despite having to be substituted during the second innings due to injury. The RCB skipper scored a commendable 84 runs in the match, taking his total runs tally to an impressive 343 runs from six matches. Du Plessis has also scored four fifties in these matches, showcasing his consistency with the bat. Moreover, his impressive strike-rate of 166.5 further adds to his brilliant performance in the tournament so far. Despite being substituted due to injury, the South African player managed to maintain his position at the top of the Orange Cap list, proving his worth as one of the top performers in the IPL 2023.

 

In the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Delhi Capitals’ skipper David Warner showcased his class and experience by scoring his fourth half-century of the season. The southpaw batsman scored a fluent 57 runs off just 41 deliveries, taking his total runs tally in IPL 2023 to 285 in six games. With this splendid knock, Warner has climbed up to the second position in the Orange Cap list, which is given to the player with the highest runs in the tournament. However, trailing just behind Warner in the third position is the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opener, Virat Kohli. The Indian skipper has been in great form and has amassed 279 runs in six games, with an impressive four half-centuries under his belt. 

 

RCB’s Mohammed Siraj had an outstanding performance with the ball in the match against PBKS, claiming 4 wickets for just 21 runs. This brilliant bowling display has now made him the new holder of the Purple Cap in IPL 2023. Siraj has taken 12 wickets in six matches, which puts him ahead of LSG pacer Mark Wood, who has taken 11 wickets in four games. Siraj’s exceptional form with the ball has been a major contributing factor to RCB’s success in the tournament so far. His ability to take wickets at crucial moments has been instrumental in RCB’s victories, and he will be looking to continue this form in the upcoming matches. RR leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is in third spot with 11 wickets in six matches, while GT leg-spinner Rashid Khan also has 11 wickets from five matches and remains in fourth position.
