Yuzvendra Chahal leads IPL 2022 Purple Cap ranking

 

Yuzvendra Chahal, the Royals’ leg-spinner, is the leading wicket-taker this season with 19 wickets in ten games.

 

The Punjab Kings (PBKS) put an end to the Gujarat Titans’ winning streak in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL). Kagiso Rabada got four wickets to limit GT to 143/8, which was followed by Shikhar Dhawan’s half-century. They chased down the mark in just 16 overs thanks to Liam Livingstone’s ferocious 30 from just 10 balls. While GT was prevented from taking a four-point lead at the top of the table, it was a significant net run rate improvement for PBKS.

 

With 16 points from eight games, the Titans are still on top of the table. However, their net run rate of 0.158 is significantly lower than that of the teams in second, third, and fourth place. This implies that if the issue remains the same, any of these squads might overtake GT if they catch up to their point total.

 

PBKS, on the other hand, still has a long way to go to secure a playoff position, despite the significant win. They moved up to the fifth position, passing Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB) . They are level with RCB and Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH) on 10 points. Although their net run rate of -0.229 is higher than RCB’s, it is significantly lower than SRH’s.

 

Kagiso Rabada of PBKS bowled brilliantly against GT, taking 4/33 to go into third place. He has finally made it to the Purple Cap table’s top ranks. The PBKS pacer had had an unusually slow start to the season, but he has been steadily improving in recent matches. Rabada has 17 wickets in nine games, the same as Kuldeep Yadav of the Delhi Capitals (DC). Yadav has a slightly higher average (15.82) than Rabada (16.05).

Yuzvendra Chahal lead the most wickets wins the Purple Cap.

 

Yuzvendra Chahal has got the world watching him right now. He leads the Purple Cap Race with 24 wickets in 13 matches this IPL. The 31-year-old right-hander is followed by Wanindu Hasaranga (23) in the second position. Kagiso Rabada (22) is third in the standings.

 

Yuzvendra Chahal has been in outstanding form for Sanju Samson and his team since being purchased by Rajasthan Royals at the IPL 2022 mega auction. So far in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, he has 24 wickets in 13 matches. The 31-year-old batter, who spent eight years with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), was purchased by Rajasthan for Rs 6.50 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction.

 

Spinners like RCB’s Wanindu Hasaranga (23) and Delhi Capitals’ Kuldeep Yadav(18) have done well in the 15th edition. These two spinners are among the IPL 2022 bowlers who have taken the most wickets.

 

Chahal expressed his delight at seeing Hasaranga and Yadav capture wickets in the competition. He told the media that he is always satisfied when he contributes to the team. Every team member is playing well; it’s not as if only two people are. Every game has two or three match-winners. Chahal added that he is glad for Hasaranga in anything he does since he’s like a brother to him. He will be thrilled if he and Yadav both take wickets.

 

In the 2008 season, Sohail Tanvir became the first bowler to win the Purple Cap after taking 22 wickets in 11 matches. In the event, the Pakistan left-arm seamer took 22 wickets at an incredible average of 12.09.

 

RP Singh, a former left-arm fast bowler, was the first Indian cricketer to get the Purple Cap honour. Singh won the award for taking 23 wickets with a strike rate of 15.50 in the 2009 IPL season.

 

Last year, Harshal Patel won the 2021 IPL after taking a record-equaling 32 wickets, the most ever in a single tournament. After the season ended with CSK defeating KKR by 27 runs in the final, Patel was awarded the Purple Cap for IPL 2021.

 

Patel is currently ranked 17th in the Purple Cap IPL 2022.

 

Despite the fact that numerous people have won the Purple Cap, only Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Dwayne Bravo have won it twice. In fact, Bhuvneshwar is the only player to win the Purple Cap twice in a row, with 23 and 27 wickets in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals(RR) beat Lucknow Super Giants(LSG) by 24 runs to move to second spot in the points table. Trent Boult’s quick strikes with the new ball hurt Lucknow early before Krunal Pandya and Deepak Hooda threatened with their solid half-century stand. The latter did score his fourth fifty in IPL 2022 today, but his efforts weren’t enough as LSG were restricted to 154/8 in 20 overs. 

 

Kagiso Rabada, on the other hand, has surpassed former great Dale Steyn as South Africa’s top wicket-taker this IPL. On Monday, Rabada took the only wicket for the Punjab Kings(PBKS) in their 17-run loss to the Delhi Capitals(DC).  Dale Steyn, a former South African fast bowler, played 95 matches in the IPL and took 97 wickets at an average of 25.9. Rabada grabbed one for 24 in three overs, including the wicket of Mitchell Marsh of Australia, who top-scored with 63 off 48 balls.

 

In his 62nd IPL game, the South African raised his tally of IPL wickets to 98, making him the country’s most wicket-taker in the lucrative T20 event. Rabada has represented the DC in every IPL event since making his debut in 2017. This year, the PBKS purchased him.

 

The PBKS have one more IPL game left and are in seventh place with 12 points. Rabada only needs a double in Sunday’s encounter against the Sunrisers Hyderabad to become the competition’s fastest bowler.

 

Furthermore, Umran Malik claims to have picked up his fist-pumping celebration after observing his mentor and bowling coach Dale Steyn do it in the Sunrisers Hyderabad nets everytime the young tearaway scores a wicket. With 3 for 23 from three overs at Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday night, Malik was instrumental in Sunrisers’ tight triumph over Mumbai Indians.

 

Malik’s 21 wickets in his first full IPL season rank fourth overall and second among fast bowlers this year, narrowly behind Rabada’s 22.

 

Meanwhile, as the competition nears its conclusion, the battle for the playoffs has heated up. While the Gujarat Titans have officially clinched a top-two finish, RR and LSG are all but done with 16 points and a good net run rate. However, both sides can be eliminated mathematically. As a result, it will be intriguing to watch how the final four will turn out.
